4 Outlook Plugins & Add-Ins to Improve Security
The four Microsoft Outlook plug-ins on this list will help you with your security.
SpamBayes is a Bayesian anti-spam plugin for Microsoft Outlook that “tightly integrates classification and training into the Outlook interface.”
In layman’s terms, it tries to classify your incoming messages into different categories—spam, good, and unsure. After it classifies each incoming email, it automatically places them in each corresponding folder; thus, you’re spared from reading those pesky emails.
Being Bayesian, it learns from the contents of spam and good email to calculate the probability of a message being good or spam. Basically, it observes your behavior—what emails do you consider good emails and what emails do you label spam. Then, it analyzes those piles of emails, searching for clues why these emails are different.
For example, the word “Nigeria” or the phrases “lose weight fast” and “lottery” often appear in spam emails. SpamBayes remember this and even when the spam changes, the plugin adapts with the changes.
SpamBayes work with Outlook 2010 (Windows 7), Outlook 2000/2003/ 2007/2010 (Windows XP/Vista), Outlook Express (Windows XP). If you’re using Windows 7 and it seems like SpamBayes doesn’t work, installing it in C:SpamBayes will do the trick.
2. Send Secure
Instead of the regular Send button, you can use the Send Secure Outlook add-in to securely send your message to anyone through the EdgeWave (the creator of the plugin) gateway. After that, the message is forwarded to the encryption system which, in turn, notifies the receiver to pick up the message through a web interface.
When downloading the installer, save it locally and then run it. Make sure to check the certificate and close Outlook before installing it. Once you launch the installer, there will be a step-by-step instruction what you should do when you launch it. You’ll see the Send Secure button above the Send button in Outlook.
Send Secure is compatible with Windows 7 and 8, 32 and 64 bit as well as with Outlook Versions 2007, 2010, 2013 and 2016.
3. Outlook Password
Have you forgotten your password, but don’t want to change it? You can recover it in seconds with Outlook Password, an advanced password recovery tool created by Thegrideon Software. It recovers Outlook .pst files as well as remove them just in case you don’t need them anymore. Aside from password recovery, Outlook Password also recovers the email passwords, server settings, and logins from current records of your Outlook account.
This plugin supports all encryption methods and doesn’t need any external frameworks or libraries to install. It supports all Outlook 97 through the 2019 version and Windows XP through Windows 10.
4. Advanced Security
Everybody wants their emails to be safe and secure. The problem, however, is most Outlook plugins have annoying secure alerts. Skip those pesky sounds and pop-up alerts, but keep your emails safe with Advanced Security.
Aside from telling you what type of alert you’re receiving, it also determines the type of program that caused the alert. After checking out whether the alert is a real threat or not, the user can then assign a status – block access, allow access, or run the default Outlook handler—to the program. After that, any future actions that have been specified will be automatically executed thus blocking any messages that’ll alert you about programs that are trying to access your stored email addresses on Outlook.
Advanced Security is compatible with:
Microsoft Outlook 2019 (32-bit), 2016 (32-bit), 2013 (32-bit), 2010 (32-bit), 2007, 2003, 2002 (XP)
